It might be the case. Please understand that I’m not talking about business here: the game could make millions, for sure, but that doesn’t turn it into a technological breakthrough or anything. Angry Birds made millions and sparked a whole franchise… but from a technology perspective, there’s nothing to say about it. Pokémon Go might spark movies, merchandise, TV series and who knows what else, but it will still be “just a game”, with no real transcendence in the tech arena. That’s the meaning I was trying to convey: no relevance for augmented reality, no role in advancing tech penetration, no nothing. Just. A. Game.
